Council reviews mock-up plan for new ‘Welcome to Vernonia’ sign

Council members Norman and another councilor reported they had met with staff to develop a plan for a new metal welcome sign just south of town that will preserve the original log-style lettering. The proposed sign would be roughly 8-by-10 feet and use metal fabrication with graphics provided by a local vendor in Scappoose.
"...we're making a sign very similar... It will say Welcome to Vernonia with the lettering that Michael Snow has on the log lettering," a councilor said. Staff are obtaining mock-ups from Pacific Stainless Steel and Digital Graphics and plan to present a design and cost estimate to the council at a future meeting.
Councilors said the design will keep the existing style while making the sign more durable; they asked staff to identify funding and to bring a photo or mock-up when available.
