Public commenters raise ethics and alleged law-enforcement misconduct; board declines immediate action

Several public commenters used the citizen-comment period to raise sharply worded accusations and ethics concerns. Donald Peterson alleged that members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and local drug units were engaged in reverse drug stings and trafficking on the dark web; he called for investigation and leveled personal accusations. The board did not initiate any formal investigation during the meeting; staff and commissioners said public-safety claims would be referred to appropriate offices for follow-up.

Another speaker, Jen Eastridge, alleged potential conflict-of-interest and professional-conduct issues involving Commissioner Anthony Sabatini, citing Florida statutes and instances of a commissioner simultaneously providing legal services to a municipality. Eastridge urged the commission to consider ethics rules; commissioners said the matters raised could be investigated through established complaint channels and noted they would not make immediate judgment from public comments alone.

The board encouraged people with concerns about alleged misconduct to provide documented evidence to the proper authorities; the county did not take enforcement action or make findings during the July 22 meeting.
