The sheriff said the jail’s rated capacity is 165 and the census that morning was about 101, and he outlined related cost concerns: the county is negotiating contracts for food and medical services that will be sensitive to census changes. He said the new system will also create reviewable logs when staff miss scheduled checks and will be used to improve monitoring and training. "It's going to be a great system," he said, explaining how the badges and scanners will work in daily operations.
