Resident urges Mount Shasta to work with CHP and county on dangerous stretch of Everett Memorial Highway

Kathleen Dugan, a Mount Shasta resident, told the City Council she has repeatedly seen vehicles travel “upwards of 40 to 50 miles an hour” on Everett Memorial Highway and described two serious crashes in the last two years, including one two weeks earlier that crossed the center line near cyclists. “We need to work together to make Mount Shasta safe for everyone,” she said, and asked whether the city could help monitor or enforce the speed limit on that county-managed stretch.
The police chief responded that much of the roadway lies outside city limits and recommended residents contact the CHP commander at the Mount Shasta office or the sheriff’s department for additional patrols; he added the department runs radar on the lower half‑mile and can provide enforcement when requested. The exchange clarified enforcement limits and pointed residents to county and state partners for ongoing speed enforcement.
