Claymont board authorizes appeal over disputed 4.2 mills for permanent improvements

The Claymont City Board of Education on Feb. 9 unanimously approved a resolution authorizing legal counsel to file an appeal with the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals after the Tuscarawas County Budget Commission failed to acknowledge the board’s April 14, 2025 reallocation of 4.2 mills of inside millage for permanent improvements. Mrs. Host moved to add the resolution to the agenda and the motion passed on a roll-call vote.
The resolution states, “The Board hereby authorizes legal counsel to file an appeal on its behalf in the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals from the February 9, 2026 decision of the Tuscarawas County Budget Commission…unless the Commission takes action on or before March 1, 2026 acknowledging the Board’s April 14, 2025 reallocation of its 4.2 mills of inside millage.” The board recorded unanimous “yes” votes from Mrs. Host, Ms. Campbell, Mrs. Grandison, Mr. Peters and Mrs. Wolf. The board did not specify the financial impact of the disputed millage reallocation in the meeting packet.
