Road department: patching complete, chip seal next week; commissioners sign DOT certification letters

Benson County road staff reported that crews finished patching and that chip‑seal work is scheduled to be completed next week. Staff said the project will incorporate a one‑inch mill and a three‑inch overlay with recycled asphalt product in the maintenance work, and that those plans were submitted to DOT for comment.

During the update, a commissioner asked for timing; staff answered that chip seal should be done "sometime next week" after the recent patching completion. Staff requested that the chair sign five standard federal‑aid certification letters (design certification, no right of way required, no railroad impacts, etc.). A motion to sign the five letters was made, seconded and carried by voice vote so the project can proceed to DOT review.

Commissioners also discussed cost‑share of 20% on certain engineering costs and the typical timeline for construction engineering oversight. Staff said they would return with DOT comments and notify the board in November of next steps.
