The Benson County commission approved a preliminary engineering contract for the Brown Road overlay so the county could proceed with a federal-aid application. County staff said the federal program requires preliminary engineering early in the process and asked the board to authorize contract execution so the county does not miss the pipeline timing.
A commissioner moved to approve the preliminary engineering contract and the motion was seconded by Davidson (named in the record). After discussion about timing and who would sign, the board voted and approved the contract. County staff said the engineering work will be assigned to the road department and a follow-up progress report will be provided at the next meeting.
The approval positions Benson County to meet the federal-aid schedule if the application is successful; staff said if federal aid is not awarded the county can pursue other options such as the flex fund later.
