Pratt Family Practice says PRRC building is feasible to renovate, asks county to expedite disposition

Representatives of Pratt Family Practice attended the Jan. 20 Pratt County meeting to renew interest in acquiring the PRRC building. An initial engineer visit produced a verbal report that the building could be renovated, but would require significant investment, including a new roof and "several million dollars," the provider said.
Dr. Fowler (S8) said the practice prefers investing in a building it would own rather than continuing to lease space, noting the building's proximity to the hospital is an operational advantage. "We have right now, we have 5 docs and a total of 11 providers," Dr. Fowler said, and added that additional physicians are expected to join within a few years, increasing the practice's space needs.
Dr. Fowler told commissioners the practice would form a separate entity (not Pratt Family Practice itself) to pursue the building, and that local contractors might be able to start as early as May though a full multi‑million dollar renovation would take more time. The practice said it would be willing to spend some initial funds but wants the county to give an affirmative indication before commissioning a $50,000 engineer report.
County staff (S3) said the board will consider adopting a resolution that creates an alternative disposition method under KSA 19-2-11(b) that could speed certain transactions, but stressed the resolution still requires public notice and hearings. Commissioners and the practice agreed staff will keep the practice informed as legal counsel and hospital counsel continue discussions around PRMC matters.
