Parks staff delivered a semiannual update at the June 8 meeting, reporting that campgrounds at Swains Lake and Pleasant Lake and attractions at the Cascades opened for the season on Memorial Day weekend. Staff said the Cascades and Sparks Museum participated in the county free museum day, noting about 134 visitors at the Cascades that day.
The department highlighted completed projects including new pickleball/tennis courts at Grass Lake County Park and a new accessible playground at Pleasant Lake. A new kayak rental vendor, Otterly Fun Kayak Rental, opened Memorial Day weekend and staff said the vendor will offer delivery and pickup across county waterways. Parks staff also described a partnership with Experience Jackson to launch a parks 'challenge' beginning June 21 to encourage visits to 14 locations with prize incentives. The board moved to receive the semiannual parks report and approved it unanimously.
