During the June 8 meeting the county treasurer briefed the board on quarterly financial and foreclosure-related matters and highlighted participation in class-action settlements over surplus proceeds from tax-foreclosed properties. The treasurer said the county is part of claims stemming from the Fox settlement (Saginaw County) and that eligible claimants must file by July 16, 2026.
"That deadline is 07/16/2026," the treasurer said, emphasizing that claimants who had ownership interest in properties sold for more than outstanding taxes between 2013 and 2020 should check notices or contact the claims administrator at Macomb County. The treasurer added the county hopes the settlement "will resolve any and all pending, retroactive claims," but acknowledged the final scope of exposure will be clearer only after the filing deadline passes.
Commissioner Pulaski asked whether the settlement would resolve earlier-year exposures; the treasurer replied that the goal is to resolve retroactive claims but that the board won’t know the county’s full exposure until the claims window closes. The board moved to receive the treasurer’s report and recorded a unanimous voice vote in support.
What to do: Residents who believe they may be claimants should search "Fox class action settlement" for links to the Macomb County claims administrator or contact the county treasurer’s office before the July 16, 2026 deadline.
