A county law‑enforcement official told commissioners the county was granted a 2008 MRAP armored vehicle through a federal/military surplus program and the department paid the cost to ship it from California.
“This one is a 2008. It's an MRAP through the military... All we had to do is pay for the shipping to get it here,” the official said, adding the vehicle is roughly 40,000 pounds, described as level‑7 armored, and that classified systems were removed before transfer. The official said the county will prepare a press release and make the acquisition public as required by earlier federal guidance.
Commissioners acknowledged the notice and had no recorded objections; the department said the vehicle is in good condition and was pulled from a special‑forces motor pool.
