SEMSA reports hiring surge and $20,000 paramedic sign-on bonus

Mike Swenson of SEMSA presented a staffing and recruitment update to the Emergency Medical Care Committee on Feb. 13. He said the paramedic sign-on bonus increased to $20,000 on April 1, 2024; two Quick Response Vehicles were added on April 23; a consultant was hired May 13 to review the SSP and implement changes; and street-corner posting was implemented May 24.
Swenson also provided hiring totals by period: seven full-time paramedic hires from April to August, five part-time hires from April to August, 11 full-time hires from August to December, and six part-time hires from August to December. No personnel actions or approvals were taken by the committee at the meeting.
