Superintendent: winter data shows reading and math gains; several schools post high growth

McLaughlin said the districtwide Idaho reading indicator (Amira/IRI) showed growth: "we started at 57%... our last full measure in December was 71% in the green," and described reductions in the percentage of students scoring in the lowest band. He pointed to four elementary schools — Farmsteadville, Hopeville Elementary, Northside Elementary and Washington Elementary — where every grade level achieved both high achievement and high growth on MAP assessments.
Secondary schools also showed progress: McLaughlin highlighted seventh-grade math proficiency rising substantially between December and early February in samples cited during the presentation and described targeted reading intervention for SCC and special-education students that reduced the number needing specially designed instruction from 30 to 12 in the period discussed. He closed by saying the district will continue to allocate instructional coaching where data indicate need.
