Saint Clair County wins $504,000 Safe Streets for All grant, aims for $630,000 project with match

Candice Hill, the county grants coordinator, told the Saint Clair County Commission the county has secured a Safe Streets for All award and is positioned to compete for implementation funds.
"It's $504,000 in grant funding, and altogether with the match is $630,000," Hill said, and she told commissioners the award should help the county advance safety treatments such as striping and temporary paving while positioning projects for future implementation grants. She said staff are awaiting a funding decision from Innovate Alabama on Feb. 9.
Hill said the award grew out of a Regional Planning Commission action plan and that the county will finish technical plan details under the current award before pursuing implementation dollars. She also said some municipalities may be invited to contribute modest amounts if the county expands the plan to include incorporated places.
Next steps include finishing the plan details, coordinating with municipal partners, and aligning proposed improvements with the county's transportation improvement plan so projects are eligible for additional implementation funding.
