City staff: single-hauler trash service for Merriam residential areas begins Nov. 1

City staff provided an update on the single-hauler solid-waste program. Caitlin Gard told the council that Homeowners Association areas had opted into the program and that a single hauler (GFL) will begin service for residential units in Merriam on Nov. 1.
Gard said the city will include information in the summer edition of its Highlights publication and that both the city and GFL will send individual mailers to notify residents. She said an FAQ is available on the city website and offered to provide any additional details requested by council members.
Why it matters: The change consolidates residential solid-waste service under a single-hauler model for participating HOAs, which can affect collection schedules, billing, and resident communications. Council asked staff to report back with participation numbers if available.
