Finance director says staff is auditing hotel filings for transient guest tax

Finance Director Borth told the council there was nothing unusual to report for October and that the city is near the end of the fiscal year, but she flagged a formal audit now underway of a hotel believed to be out of compliance with transient guest tax rules.
"We are actually conducting a formal audit of certain hotels that we believe may not be acting within policy or the guidelines of the transient guest tax," Director Borth said. She said the hotel being audited has until December to provide records under state law, and staff will report back to council when the audit yields findings. The director characterized the review as a compliance check and said the city's hope is that businesses are complying with the rules.
