Board tables request to use commissary funds for reentry brochures and letterhead

Warden Mac McDuffie described an emailed request from a program seeking funding for brochures and a custom letterhead to support released inmates. McDuffie said commissary-account proceeds are required to be used to benefit the inmate population and are audited annually; he told the board he did not think the requested use was appropriate for that account and suggested tabling the matter for further discussion with program representatives.
President Pete Acker asked for a motion to table the request; Commissioner Timothy McGonigle made the motion, Commissioner Ann Coleman seconded, and the board voted unanimously to table further discussion.
The Warden said a digitized brochure might be uploaded to inmate tablets in the future but emphasized that commissary funds cannot be used for public-facing expenses without clear justification and auditability.
