Mercer County Jail reports January population and schedules repairs after heating failures

Warden Mac McDuffie reported to the Mercer County Prison Board on Feb. 17 that the jail had 139 commitments and 148 releases in January, with an average daily population of 201. He said four heating units in the Maximum Control area recently failed; contractor Huzzy’s replaced two units and the remaining two are slated for repair soon.
Board members approved the Warden’s report by unanimous voice vote after the presentation. McDuffie described the equipment failures as isolated and said otherwise operations were normal for the month. The board did not schedule additional action beyond the planned repairs.
