Council hears plan to modernize George W. Hill correctional facility kitchen

County facilities staff briefed council on the George W. Hill Correctional Facility kitchen modernization, describing a full renovation of roughly 10,000 square feet of kitchen, storage and staff support spaces.
"The project involves the complete renovation and modernization of the kitchen and supporting food service areas," Ms. Floyd said, adding the work will be completed in seven phases to maintain on-site food service for both staff and incarcerated individuals. She told council the project will include new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and that construction is governed by a Project Labor Agreement negotiated between Delaware County Council and the Delaware County Chapter of the Philadelphia Building and Construction Trades Council.
A council member thanked staff for the coordination and called the project "so needed," noting complex construction coordination and positive progress. Staff said the project has been included in the approved capital budget and will be brought forward for any necessary contract approvals and contingency planning.
Council moved the item to the consent agenda. Staff indicated they will return with procurement and budget amendments as bids and schedules are finalized.
