Delaware County’s Personnel Board approved creating a Senior Assistant Solicitor assigned to the Office for Senior Services, with an annual salary range from $87,229 to $113,397.
HR and the executive director explained the position would handle protective, abuse and neglect cases currently handled by outside counsel. "We use that now currently through an outside service, and will likely save money with this expenditure," the executive director said (S6). Budget Director Hayes (S7) said projected savings from reduced outside counsel fees should allow the county to absorb the new hire without a permanent appropriation; the motion passed by voice vote.
Why it matters: Officials said the in-house attorney will provide continuous representation, streamline case handling and reduce external legal fees for senior services cases. The solicitor’s office will coordinate workload and report on realized savings.
