Board approves deputy contracts attorney to centralize contract review and drafting

The Personnel Board approved a new Deputy Solicitor, Contracts Attorney (CODA 33) with an entry salary of $115,361 and a midpoint of $149,968 to centralize contract drafting and review.
Vice Chair Ruth moved the item and HR explained the position will handle drafting and review of contracts, leases, grant amendments, charity bonds and interagency agreements to ensure compliance with local, state and federal requirements. "Having an attorney specifically dedicated to reviewing all of our contracts would be extremely beneficial," the HR representative said (S6). Budget Director Hayes (S7) said the position will be funded through a transfer from the county personnel contingency line. Several board members said they expected the role to produce savings by reducing outside counsel bills and limiting contractual issues.
Why it matters: County officials said bringing contract work inside will improve consistency, protect county interests, and may reduce long-term costs from outside counsel and contract errors. The board approved the position by voice vote.
