Council informed of DEQ permit public comment period and future PFAS regulatory timing

City staff notified the council the city's wastewater discharge permit is in a public comment period and is anticipated to be finalized in January 2025. "So now we're in the 35 day period where the public has time to review and comment on what DEQ is allowing us to do within our wastewater discharge permit," Staff member (Speaker 1) said.
Staff added that the permit, once finalized, would be good for five years and that state PFAS regulations—mentioned as forthcoming between 2027 and 2029—are not yet fully specified by regulators. "They have not even figured out how they will address those regulations," staff said, noting the city may see addenda or supplementary documentation when PFAS requirements are implemented.
Councilors received the update as informational; no action was taken at the meeting.
