"We're 6 students less than we were this month last year," Carter said when discussing current enrollment at the high‑school level; he warned that population shifts required rethinking which pathways and classes the high school can offer.
Carter described schedule changes including an added fitness course (to be taught by Mr. Rotano), consolidation of Spanish 3/4 and calculus sections, and an extra junior‑high section. He explained the district's approach to math sequencing: students take AMP and geometry as part of the pathway, with teachers determining whether a student needs pre‑algebra prior to AMP. "To graduate in Oregon, you have to have 3 math classes at algebra 1 or higher," Carter said, and the board discussed how the district's AMP/pre‑algebra sequence supports that requirement.
Trustees asked for a printed copy of graduation requirements and for clarity on dual‑credit/college math arrangements; Carter said the district is awaiting confirmation from Eastern and would pursue OIT options if necessary. The board also discussed virtual options for courses through the Virtual Learning Academy and agreed to review graduation requirements in a future meeting.
