Board approves teacher support updates, procurement for radios and document-scanning project

Terry Wilson presented required updates to the district’s Beginning Teacher (BT) Support Plan—the wording clarifies induction requirements (teachers with fewer than three years’ experience must participate regardless of licensure pathway) and adds required state data-collection language for recent graduate surveys administered by North Carolina DPI; the board unanimously approved the plan.
Miss Reinhardt presented bid renewals for groceries (Lot 1), supplies (Lot 3), and produce (Lot 4) through the Northeastern cooperative and a third-year Mayola Milk contract; packet figures included roughly $5.2 million in groceries and roughly $700,000 each for supplies and produce. Miss Hill recommended replacing the district’s repeater-based radio system with cellular Hytera radios that worked in a field demonstration; the quote (including the first year of cellular service) was $180,008.36 plus tax and the board approved the purchase. Miss Edmondson requested a contract with SC View to digitize and index inactive student records—citing North Carolina statute 115C-402—and the board approved the project to begin at Pasquotank Elementary (Learning Center) and proceed districtwide.
Each of these items was moved and passed by unanimous vote.
