At the July 20 meeting, parents and volunteers asked the council to help secure an end-of-season banquet or recognition for an undefeated travel team after organizers said they had paid for travel, snacks and other costs out of pocket.
One resident said the team "went undefeated" and asked, "What's going to be done for us?" Staff directed the resident to meet with rec center staff and a named contact (Toya/Lawson) to coordinate event scheduling and funding. Volunteer organizer Britney (speaker 12) told council she could secure sponsorships if the city could advise on the nonprofit paperwork required: "I can't get the money because I don't have the paperwork... I'll get the information for you in the next 48 hours," she said.
City staff explained that nonprofit applicants or those using municipal facilities may need to use an existing nonprofit or apply through the recreation center’s processes, and offered to walk volunteers through the requirements. Staff encouraged direct follow-up so city staff and the rec center can advise on fundraising options and facility uses.
