Council hears about upcoming PFAS groundwater study led by Eastern geology department

Council member Jack alerted residents to a groundwater study this summer by Eastern Washington University's geology department that will offer free well testing to properties southwest of Well Number 5 after PFAS was detected in nearby wells; the Eastern Foundation funds the testing.
Council member Jack said the geology department at Eastern Washington University, led by Dr. Chad Pritchard, will conduct a groundwater study this summer after PFAS was detected in some wells just outside city limits near Lance Hill. Jack said researchers believe contamination may be migrating from Well Number 5 and invited property owners southwest of Well 5 to request free testing.
Jack said the Eastern Foundation is paying for the testing and researchers plan to map contamination flow and return with a report to council and to Eastern. “There has been some PFAS detected in some of their groundwater wells just outside of our city limits... they do believe that it is migrating from our Well Number 5,” Jack said.
