Monroe seniors pitch 'Blue Crew' to boost school spirit; first events set for August

Senior Addison Matthews told the board that a new student organization, Blue Crew, will focus on promoting school spirit, supporting athletics and organizing student‑led events throughout the year.
"My name is Addison Matthews, and I'm a senior here at Monroe High School," Matthews said. She described Blue Crew’s aims: attend and cheer at sporting events, revive traditions such as pep rallies and organize activities to bring students, staff and community members together. The students said the club’s first event will be a senior sunrise at Hornet Stadium on Aug. 14 and that the group will host a sign‑up meeting at the start of the school year.
Board members praised the idea and encouraged the students to coordinate with boosters. The board also said it would invite student clubs to present at future meetings to keep trustees informed about extracurricular activities.
