The Franklin McKinley School District Board voted to adopt Resolution 2025-50 declaring three closed school sites as exempt surplus land. Jason, presenting for staff, told trustees that adopting the resolution addresses a technical statutory matter and does not commit the board to any particular course of action.
"Adoption of this resolution does not commit the board to any particular course of action for the use of the properties," Jason said. Trustee Rodriguez moved to adopt Resolution 2025-50 and a second was made; the board approved the resolution with four ayes and one abstention.
Trustees and staff emphasized the vote is an interim, procedural step required under the surplus-land process. Board members said additional public engagement and specific lease or sale decisions would return to the board for public action, at which point tenants, terms and community benefits would be specified.
The resolution was recorded on the meeting agenda as Item 9.03 (Resolution 2025-50). The committee’s leasing priorities will inform staff recommendations should the board proceed to lease negotiations after declaring the properties surplus.
