Representative Kay Christofferson said the opening weeks of the legislative session were largely consumed by appropriations work and that lawmakers are looking to reprioritize roughly 5% of the state budget.
"We're trying to we have an idea that we wanna at least reprioritize about 5% of our budget," Christofferson said, adding that state agencies are reviewing what they can cut and what remains most important.
Christofferson said that the first 2.5 weeks of the session were dedicated to budget work and that this review is shaping how lawmakers will approach priorities in later floor and committee debates. She also asked constituents to send feedback about priorities and how potential reductions might affect services.
She closed by noting the governor would deliver the state of the state that evening, which she expected would outline further priorities that could affect appropriation decisions.
