Anchorage School District holds first combined leadership summit to ground strategic plan implementation

District leaders, principals and K–12 administrative staff attended a summit described as the first to combine all ASD office-level staff for training and to introduce the district's educational strategic plan, which presenters said will be implemented from the "bottom up."
Anchorage School District convened a leadership summit bringing together district leadership, principals, assistant principals and K–12 administrative staff to align operational training with the district's educational strategic plan. "This is the summit and the very 1st of its kind," a presenter said, describing the event as an effort to coordinate training across roles.
The presenter said organizers intend for the plan's implementation to come "from the bottom up," starting with office staff and administrative teams and working upward through school leadership. The training covered administrative and operational systems the speaker said are needed to ensure consistent application of the district's priorities across schools. "We are combining training for all of these individuals and also introducing our educational strategic plan so that the implementation of that plan is from the bottom up," the presenter said.
A new principal who spoke during the summit described how those systems can reduce the uncertainty of leading a school. "As a new principal, I need this leadership summit," the principal said, adding that training on business management and administrative systems helps work proceed more seamlessly. The moderator closed by restating the district's role: to support buildings and educators and "support your greatness in your work."
