Board members asked staff to clarify middle‑school consequences and to tighten language about off‑site work‑based learning so students do not interpret a departure from campus as a blanket exception for daytime cell‑phone use. Mrs. Cashin urged clearer repercussions for middle school given that is often when students first obtain phones.
Administration recommended approving the handbooks as presented and returning any narrowly scoped edits as amendments so the district would have approved handbooks in place before the school year. The motion to approve passed by voice vote.
District staff said they will circulate the clarified language to the board and return with any handbook amendments at the next meeting if required.
