County parks staff told the committee they are pursuing Wi‑Fi service and payment‑system upgrades at multiple beach parks to improve visitor experience and revenue collection.
A parks official said, "we're out for...doing an RFP right now for Wi Fi services" for East Of Lavaca Park and other parks, and that the county is working to expand Wi‑Fi and integrate credit‑card acceptance. The chair suggested exploring Starlink as an option to provide internet at remote pavilions.
Staff also described an upgraded collection system that will integrate "the Fuego tag and, with the CCRA," allowing users with tags to preload funds and access parks without on-site payment. Staff said credit-card acceptance is already available at several booths and that signs at some entrances may be out of date.
