Superintendent reports busy start to year, previews SaferWatch app and goal tracker

Superintendent (S4) gave the board a broad update on the district's start-of-school activities, staffing and safety tools. "Lots happened since the last time we were here. It's been rocking and rolling," S4 told the board, noting an added third kindergarten section (about 17 students) and a recent all-staff opening. He described meetings with bus drivers and community greeters and praised the district's nutrition staff: "Linda's tremendous job."
S4 also described SaferWatch, an app the state of Oregon funds for schools that uses geofencing to limit false emergency triggers and to show location on campus. "It allows us to layer in different levels of support... it shows a location on the campus," S4 said. He said the district hired a tech support person (Renee) with 14 years of experience and that administrators are reviewing building-use processes and liability coverage. He previewed a goal-tracker dashboard the board and principals will be able to access to monitor attendance and project status over the year.
