Florence County Council voted to obligate $4,700,884 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to projects including public safety, technology infrastructure and capital improvements.
County staff explained that ARPA funds must be obligated by Dec. 31, 2024 to remain eligible and said the county has been working through a list of projects to absorb the remaining balance. "These funds are required to be committed by the federal government by December 31," staff said, explaining the appropriation and noting staff contributions to the resolution's preparation. After discussion the council approved the resolution by voice vote with proxies recorded where applicable.
The resolution lists projects to receive the funds; staff said further budgetary detail and project authorization will follow the resolution and standard procurement rules. The council's vote committed the identified funds but staff will return with contract awards or project ordinances as appropriate.
