The Mercer County Board of Commissioners used its April 2 meeting to approve a slate of routine business items, including proclamations, personnel actions, tax refunds, appointments and vendor/contract approvals.
Proclamations approved included recognition of the Stey-Nevant Public Library’s 75th anniversary and the retirement of Dr. Theodore Leon Yarboro, Sr. The Board approved multiple HR actions (Res. 2026-120 and 2026-121) covering new hires, transfers and separations across departments such as CYS, jail and voter registration; motions were moved by Commissioner McGonigle, seconded by Commissioner Finley and recorded as unanimous votes. The Board also approved refunds listed in Res. 2026-119 (examples: Alexander, Ray II & Jennifer—$224.99; Thiel College—$304.44). Lorraine Rutter was confirmed to the MH/ID Advisory Board (Res. 2026-122).
Other routine items passed included a lease amendment to Struthers Farms for 20 acres at $70 per tillable acre (Res. 2026-125), bridge notices and bidding actions (Res. 2026-130–132), and a one-year HazMat response agreement with Butler County at $2,500 (Res. 2026-138). Several items were tabled for future consideration, including the updated Mercer County Policy & Employee Handbook (Res. 2026-135) and a Firehouse Subs grant application was noted and tabled (Res. 2026-141). The meeting recessed to the Salary Board and adjourned after a media question about the county’s routine internal cash advances.
