District reports Division 22 compliance; elementary PE minutes marked noncompliant with corrective plan

Dr. Soissen, director of teaching and learning, presented the district's Division 22 report for the 2023'4 school year and said the district provided evidence for most standards. One standard was reported as out of compliance: elementary physical education minutes. State guidance requires 150 weekly minutes of standards-aligned physical education; the district said K— students participate in a combination of weekly PE classes, standardized classroom movement activities and structured recess, but that some movement activities during recess were supervised by paraeducators rather than certified staff as required for the standard.
To remedy the noncompliance, the district described a corrective plan: add a 0.33 FTE elementary PE/health class to increase PE minutes; standardize classroom movement activities designed by PE teachers (to be implemented across K—); and ensure certified-staff supervision for standards-aligned movement activities. Dr. Soissen said the district will implement the plan and submit evidence to the Oregon Department of Education with an expectation of compliance by the required timeline.
