Family members and longtime residents described Leija’s role in building the city’s playgrounds, Little League complexes, and tree‑planting initiatives dating back several decades. A family member and local leaders told the council the family offered to pay for permanent signage.
Council approved the renaming; staff said they would update digital resources and return later with cost estimates for new permanent signage.
