The Commissioners Court approved Change Order No. 3 for the Justice Center project, a $56,190 set of layout revisions requested by judicial and prosecutorial offices. The changes include converting a conference room into two offices (approximately $13,400), additional district attorney workstations (about $19,000) and reassigning district clerk deputy workstations (roughly $24,000).
County Engineer John A. Hernandez told commissioners that judges and departmental representatives had met previously during the design phase, but that some layout requests surfaced after the initial plans were finalized and that the requested modifications create a "domino effect" on HVAC, lighting and data points. "This is requesting the conference room and be made into offices," Hernandez said. Commissioners pressed staff on why the changes were not identified earlier; staff said the requests came once occupants saw the finalized room configurations.
County financial staff confirmed contingency funds are available to cover the change order. A commissioner moved approval with a second; the court approved the change order by voice vote.
