Hernandez explained that the change order is split into two parts: $86,585 for a double‑lock sprinkler system designed to prevent a false alarm from activating the entire sprinkler system in record rooms, and $32,662 for additional power and data outlets that will facilitate future conversion of storage space to office use. "This 1 we call the 1st part, the double lock fire sprinkler system for the record storage is not only for the County Clerk's Office, but also the District Clerk's storage area," Hernandez said.
Commissioners questioned why the requirement was not part of the initial design; project staff said records protection was identified after the initial design and that adding the system now required a change order that increases project cost. After discussion, a commissioner moved to approve the item, it was seconded, and the court approved the change order by voice vote.
