Court appoints new lead foreman, approves trailer purchase and revises travel policy

Angelina County Commissioners approved the appointment of Mark Maxie as Lead Foreman of the Road & Bridge Department and a corresponding salary increase. The motion to appoint Maxie was made by Kermit Kennedy and seconded by Kenneth Jeffrey; the vote was recorded in favor by Commissioners Tim Sprinkle, Kermit Kennedy, Tom Berry and Kenneth Jeffrey.
The court also approved procurement and policy changes: the Unit Road System was authorized to purchase a 2014 Kaufman Lowboy trailer from the landfill for $25,000.00 (funded in the 2026 budget), and the court adopted a revised Travel and Vehicle Expense Reimbursement Policy that establishes an accountable reimbursement plan under Internal Revenue Code §62(c) and Texas Local Government Code Sec. 152.011. Separately, the court adopted the IRS standard mileage reimbursement rate effective Jan. 1, 2026, increasing the county rate from $0.70 to $0.725 per mile.
