Angelina County commissioners approve easement, interlocal jail agreement, and grant applications

At its Jan. 13, 2026 meeting in Lufkin, the Angelina County Commissioners Court approved multiple routine budget transfers and unanimously approved an Oncor easement, an interlocal jail-housing agreement with Trinity County, authorization to apply for the SB 22 rural law enforcement grant and a body-worn camera grant, an employee assistance services agreement, and personnel and financial administrative actions.
County Judge Keith Wright called the Angelina County Commissioners Court to order at 10:00 A.M. on Jan. 13, 2026 in the Commissioners Courtroom and Annex in Lufkin. After an opening prayer by Rev. William R. Ricks and the Pledge of Allegiance, the court approved a multi-item consent agenda that included minutes from Dec. 23, 2025 and several budget transfers across departments to cover utility, equipment rental and supply costs.
The court then moved through its business agenda, voting unanimously on a series of motions: approval of an easement and right of way for Oncor Electric related to Taxiway K; an interlocal agreement allowing Trinity County to house inmates in the Angelina County Jail; authorization for the County Judge to apply for the Texas Rural Law Enforcement Grant Program (commonly called the SB 22 Grant); a resolution allowing the Sheriff’s Office to apply for the Texas Body Worn Camera Grant from the Office of the Governor; an agreement with Upland Advocacy, LLC to provide employee assistance services; an increase of the ACH limit for the Tax Assessor-Collector to $500,000.00; the temporary appointment of J.B. Smith as Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1, Place #2; and acceptance of the 2025 Racial Profiling Exemption Report filed by Angelina County Constable Precinct #2. The court adjourned at 10:20 A.M.
