Commissioners approve elections staff travel, including CIRA graduation

The court approved travel for the county election administrator and assistant to attend the IGO annual conference in Reston (July 24–30) and travel for the Election Center conference and CIRA graduation in Kansas City (Aug. 19–23); the election administrator said training and national networking benefit county election operations and that travel costs were budgeted and partially reimbursable.
The Kaufman County Commissioners Court approved travel for the election administrator and an assistant to attend two national events: the International Association of Government Officials (IGO) annual conference in Reston, Virginia (July 24–30), and the Election Center National Conference and CIRA graduation in Kansas City (Aug. 19–23).
Miss Tandy told the court these events include pre-courses, educational sessions and certification opportunities. She noted the county budget (FY26) includes the expense and that partial reimbursement is available for the travel. "This isn't just a conference. It's also educational sessions," she said, describing two full days of pre-courses followed by the conference and planning sessions. The court approved both travel requests by motion and oral vote.
Tandy also said a deputy in her office completed 12 courses through online classes secured at no cost to the county via a grant program with the Texas Association of County Election Officials and will graduate from the CIRA program. The transcript records that the court considered the travel requests budgeted and approved the motions with aye votes.
