The Winston-Dillard School District 116 Board of Directors recognized students from multiple schools with superintendent awards, spotlighting academic growth, leadership and perseverance.
"Joey demonstrates these qualities every day," said Sonelle Henderson, who introduced Brockway Elementary's nominee Joey Roderick and thanked his parents for supporting his growth. Looking Glass Elementary's presenters named Micah Stevens the October recipient, noting her leadership as the only fifth-grader on the volleyball team and her steady work ethic.
Presenters stressed the role of families and staff. One teacher told the board that students at Brockway "exhibit our school expectations of being safe, respectful, responsible, and kind," and principals thanked volunteers from recent Open House events for their support. The recognitions were delivered during the awards segment early in the meeting.
