Director of Development Alberto Maras explained the amendment emerged from a recent preliminary plat and staff discussions with the applicant’s engineer. "After talking with staff and even the applicant's engineer, it made sense to kind of look at it a little bit broader," Maras said. Commissioner Ponder argued for routing that would keep new right‑of‑way within the developer’s property to avoid creating sliver parcels for adjacent owners. "I think if we keep it all on his property... it won't impact anyone else," Ponder said.
Commissioners debated right‑of‑way width (options discussed included 80 or 100 feet), the distance between thoroughfares and potential need to re‑advertise if the court made changes beyond the advertised scope. The court concluded the proposed route remained within the advertised change and approved the amendment as moved by Commissioner Ponder and seconded by Commissioner Butler, with no opposition.
The court’s action changes the county’s mapped routing in Precinct 3 and directs staff to implement the revision in the thoroughfare plan; commissioners emphasized minimizing impacts on neighboring landowners when possible.
