Management firm proposes to run county hospital under license, says it will not buy the facility

A private hospital management team presented a proposal to manage the countyhospital license rather than purchase the facility, saying ownership would remain with the hospital board or city.
"We do not buy the hospital. What we have is we are managing," said Dr. Mitchell Mudra, the firm's clinician-leader, explaining the company would be hired as a management company and pay rent under a license arrangement. Mudra said the landlord role would remain with the board and that detailed terms could be worked out during due diligence.
Presenters told the board the county would have protections if the arrangement failed: Mudra said the county or hospital board would have a first right of refusal to reacquire the license if the company chose to exit after several years. John Lauer, who introduced the presentation, said the next step would be a senior-leadership meeting under an NDA to explore the structure and financial specifics.
Board members pressed for assurances because the county is already funding a major capital program, and asked how long-term facility investments would be treated if a manager later left. Presenters said detailed contract terms and due diligence would address those concerns and that they seek long-term, not short-term, partnerships.
