Extension office cleared to host public 'Shuck, Sip and Grill' oyster, beef and wine event Oct. 22

Commissioners authorized the county extension office to host a public event, "Shuck, Sip and Grill," proposed for Oct. 22 in the Bauer Exhibit Building to showcase local oyster, beef and winery producers.
The presenter (extension staff) said the event will include demonstrations on oyster farming, wine pairing and grilling, featuring a Texas A&M AgriLife specialist and local producers. "We're hoping ... that we will invite some of the Calhoun County oyster producers and the Calhoun County winery to come in and talk about their business," the presenter said, adding the event will be ticketed and intended as both educational and promotional for local producers.
Commissioners discussed logistical details including security, insurance, kitchen deposit and whether vendors could sell product onsite; the presenter said they would obtain needed insurance and two additional bids for security and supply the county office with the documents. The court moved, seconded and approved authorization for the extension office to host the event and directed staff to finalize contracts and insurance.
