Westwood Road residents ask court for schedule on delayed ditch regrading; county to check jurisdiction

Residents from the Westwood Road subdivision addressed the court to request a firm schedule for regrading neighborhood ditches. Sonia Broadway said neighbors submitted required signatures and paperwork, cleared ditches themselves and have waited in a project queue for about two years.
"We were hoping that by August 11, we would have an idea of when this project might start taking place," Broadway said, asking the court for a set date. Tara Leverett added that repeated compliance with forms and signatures has not produced action and that minor flooding continues after significant rain.
The presiding officer noted the road may be under the Village of Bailey's Prairie's responsibility and asked county staff to contact the mayor and check for an interlocal agreement. A Road and Bridge representative said they would "get the facts" and follow up. The court did not adopt a directive at the hearing beyond asking staff to report back with clarification on jurisdiction and scheduling.
