Superintendent: middle school remains on watch; district expanding supports and safety measures

He described a set of progress markers the district monitors and said staff will report results and interventions to the board as they track improvement.
The superintendent also described the district’s engagement with Transcend: teacher panels met with Transcend staff and the district expects selection results in the coming weeks. He noted strong tribal partnerships, including a college fair that drew more than a dozen students and financial support from tribal partners for assemblies and events.
On safety, the superintendent said the district is coordinating regionally on SaferWatch, a geofenced emergency notification system, and expects staff training “the first of the year” so personnel understand what response the system triggers. He also outlined plans for active-shooter drills next month and the installation of lock-block door devices to improve secure-but-accessible entry controls.
