Council approves $150,000 grant tied to Cheney Brothers’ expanded distribution project

County staff reported that the original fee agreement (Project Long Shot 1) anticipated $59.5 million in investment and 320 full-time jobs. At the meeting, a staff member said the company "has increased the size of the project and invested in excess of $108,000,000 and total new full time jobs are expected to exceed 350 jobs, and the project will commence operations in 2026." Based on the additional investment, the county approved a $150,000 reimbursement for eligible infrastructure costs.
Council members framed the amendment and grant as part of routine economic-development incentives intended to keep the project competitive and to reward additional private investment and job creation. The motion passed on a voice vote.
