Commissioners back Congressionally Directed Spending applications and hear local millage request for children's assessment center

County Controller Paul Compo said Grayling Township and South Branch Township will apply for Congressionally Directed Spending grants and asked the board for formal support. The board voted to back both township applications (motions by Commissioner Goscicki and Commissioner Kraycs, respectively); roll-call votes were recorded and each motion passed with Jamison absent.
Compo also reported that the Northern Michigan Children's Assessment Center is seeking support for a 0.05-mill, five-year ballot proposal to appear in August; he said, if approved in all six counties, it would raise roughly $400,000, which he described as about 30% of the center's annual budget. Commissioner Lewis noted for the record that he is a member of the South Branch Township Fire Department before the South Branch support motion was called and voted.
